This blog will be devoted to excerpts from old, and at times, obscure books and articles. It will have clever quotes and useful wisdom extracted from the lives of political leaders, explorers, warriors, scientists, philosophers, doctors, house wives, and many others who contribute so much to our collective knowledge and wisdom. It will include an occasional drawing or photo or perhaps even a chart or map. In all cases, the excerpt or extract will be chosen by me in hopes it will enhance your understanding or life based on history. Some will come from translations.
Our today is the product of many yesterdays and at times it is useful to look back in time to incidents or thoughts that have shaped our day. This will hopefully help us to understand our circumstances in the here and now.
Sit back and enjoy and learn.

I don't know where you read the fiction that Mary Chilton was first off the Mayflower that claim is not correct. See The Women Who Came on the Mayflower Pg. 47/48/49. by Annie Russell Marble of Worcester, Mass. Pg 47 "The name of Mary Chilton is pleasant to the ear and imagination. Chilton Street, Chiltonville in Plymouth and Chilton Club in Boston keep alive the memories of this girl, who was by persistant tradition the first girl to step upon the rock of landing at Plymouth Harbor. This tradition was given in writing in 1773 by Ann Taylor, the grandchild of Mary Chilton and John Winslow."
